New York Jets backup running back/return specialist Joe McKnight could have his role expanded as he faces the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Week 2 match-up this Sunday.

According to the New York Daily News, practiced at the cornerback position this week after being beat out by Bilal Powell for the team's third-string running back job.

McKnight took reps all week on defense and worked with the defensive coaches on what tasks he will face. McKnight is a solid football player and can be pretty good at multiple positions after being a pretty successful player back when he was in college at USC.

It makes sense, though, of why New York is trying this out considering that they only have four healthy cornerbacks currently on the roster, especially with All-Pro Darrelle Revis already ruled out with concussion symptoms.

This isn't the first time the 24-year-old has lined up on defense, however. Last year, McKnight was used a blitzing corner for one play in a game against the Baltimore Ravens. We'll see how the three-year-pro performs come this Sunday.
