Buffalo Bills

For 30 years old, Fred Jackson has been playing amazing at the running back position, playing like what most running backs would when they are about five or six years younger.

With a big year already with 934 rushing yards and six touchdowns, things may start to look bad for him and the 5-5 Buffalo Bills as he was labeled out for Sunday’s game versus the New York Jets.

Jackson sustained a right calf injury in the team’s lost to the Miami Dolphins. He struggled in the game, only having 17 yards off of seven carries.

He was the NFL’s leading rusher before the game, but his season could be in doubt not as the team is reporting that he could in fact be out for the season!

This would be a huge blow to the offense, as the team is already struggling as they’re currently on a three-game losing-streak; including blowout losses to the Dolphins and Cowboys.

Bills are gonna need to find a way to fix themselves if the Jackson news comes out soon.

Time to step it up C.J. Spiller.

Buffalo Bills’ David Nelson caught a tight pass to score the team’s only touchdown of the game after a huge loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Probably the highlight for this team was the touchdown celebration by Nelson.

Nelson was quoted earlier this week saying he would want to go to his girlfriend after he scored. Nelson’s girlfriend is Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, Kelsi Reisch.

After scoring on this touchdown, Nelson jogged basically the whole entire field to get to his girl; hugging her and giving the ball.

Pretty nice actually. Love is everywhere, even in football games:

It’s not always easy to gain notice in the NFL.

Only one team can win the Super Bowl every season, and only 12 can qualify for the playoffs, which means two-thirds of the league just aren’t good enough.

A few years of irrelevance can have a team flying under the radar, so much so that even a winning record and a spot atop the division the following season doesn’t warrant them any respect.

Here are three teams that fit that mold that will surprise in Week 10:

Cincinnati Bengals

At 6-2, the best word to describe the Bengals in 2011 is overachieving. They’ve capitalized on their soft schedule through first eight games, and head into their nightmarish second half with a successful approach in place with rookie Andy Dalton under center.

Dalton has thrown for nearly 1,700 yards this season and 12 touchdowns while minimizing his mistakes (just seven interceptions thus far). Cincinnati will host division rival Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Steelers had won four-straight games before losing to Baltimore last Sunday night.

A Bengals’ win in Week 10 would prove Cincinnati is a realistic contender in the AFC this season, and garner them some respect from fans and experts alike.

Buffalo Bills

Having lost two of their last three games, the Bills are in danger of becoming forgotten again. Their remarkable 4-1 start to the season was highlighted by a improbable comeback victory over the rival Patriots.

A Week 4 loss at Cincinnati is beginning to look a lot better as the Bengals continue to win, but losses to the Giants and Jets only add to the fact that Buffalo hasn’t quite arrived yet, and for that they are underrated heading into Week 10.

Buffalo visits Dallas on Sunday in a must-win game for two teams that are looking to stay relevant in their respective conference playoff races.

The Bills have a much more consistent, high-powered offensive attack, although you wouldn’t know that by watching last week’s game against New York. Still, the Bills are the better team in this under-the-radar matchup in Week 10.

Denver Broncos

It’s very difficult to argue that the Broncos are underrated given all the hype surrounding the good and bad play of second-year quarterback Tim Tebow, but look at their team overall.

Denver is just 3-5 midway through the season and is surprisingly still alive in the AFC West. Tebow is 2-1 as a starter since taking over for Kyle Orton a few weeks back, and a win over the confusing Chiefs in Week 10 would pull Denver one game back of division-leading Oakland.

The win would be Denver’s second division win in two weeks, and second on the road in that time. It’s safe to say the Broncos would not be overrated going into Week 11, and that a Denver win in the future would be anything but surprising.

As boring as the title of this post may seem, what we are about to show you may bring a laugh if you’ve been having a bad day (I’m looking at you Broncos fans).

After Ryan Fitzpatrick took a bad hit from London Fletcher in the Bills match-up versus the Redskins, Tyler Thigpen looked like he would get in. The backup from Coastal Carolina did not see a pigskin coming towards him.

And as Chris Chase of Yahoo! says it, “this metaphor for his NFL career happened:”

Luckily, however, Buffalo ended up winning 23-0 as they take back the AFC East division lead after the Patriots fell to the Steelers.

Coming into the Buffalo Bills’ offense, Ryan Fitzpatrick was nothing more than a journeymen just helping out a team in need in 2009. Now he has become a household name in Buffalo, as he is helping the Bills to their first playoff appearance in just so many years.
Fitzpatrick signed a six-year, $59 million extension with $24 million guaranteed, making him the franchise quarterback.
The 28-year-old Fitzpatrick was a seventh round pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2005. His first year started off, well, slow. He played four games that year, having 777 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions, going for a 58.2 rating.
Fitzpatrick did nothing in 2006 with the Rams and wasn’t even on an NFL team in 2007. In 2008, he was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals, who needed major help with Carson Palmer down. Fitzpatrick would play 13 games for the Bengals, having 1,905 yards with eight touchdowns and nineinterceptions, finishing with a 70 rating.
The Harvard graduate would then play with the Bills in 2009. He didn’t do so well in his first year with the team, having 1,422 yards with nine touchdowns and ten interceptions, finishing with a 69.7  rating. However, the next year, things started clicking for Fitzpatrick finally. He had a much more improved season, passing for 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2010.
Now Fitzpatrick is having his best season yet so far, with 1,477 yards with twelve touchdowns and six picks for a 95.3. He has been very accurate as well, completing 66-percent of his passes as the Bills have been the surprise team of the year right now, standing at a 4-2 record.
He started out as a journeyman, and now he is making a name for himself. Finally.

“It’s been a long road. There’s been a lot of hurdles and obstacles that I’ve had to overcome,” Fitzpatrick said. “I think we’ve got this thing headed in the right direction. So to be a part of that, and to be able to continue to be a part of that for years to come, I’m really excited about it.”

The Bills have spent the past 15 years to find the right quarterback to be the successor to Jim Kelly, as it was the golden age of Bills’ football, when they made it to four straight Super Bowls (but sadly losing every single one of them). The only other quarterback to provide something for Buffalo was Doug Flutie, who has been the last starting QB to earn a contract extension with Buffalo in 1999.

“I’m excited about Ryan getting this done. He’ll be our quarterback for a long time,” general manager Buddy Nix said. “It really makes everything easier for us. It’s easy to put good players around him if you’ve got that position that you feel good about. And we do.”

The Bills will host Washington next. Buffalo has been playing great, and so has Fitzpatrick.

Congrats and I look forward to seeing him do well for the next six years.

http://www.sportsnola.com/imagesnov/sports/saints/bills-toronto-banner.jpg

Even though Buffalo, New York is just a stone’s throw across the Canadian border and thousands of Canadians travel to Ralph Wilson Stadium to watch NFL games each season, the Buffalo Bills don’t consider them to be supporters of the team. They feel the visitors are basically fans of the league and not the Bills specifically.

But the closeness of Buffalo to Toronto, which is Canada’s largest city, saw the Bills agree in 2008 to play a total of eight games there over the next five years. The $78 million agreement was for five regular season tilts and three preseason matches to be held at the Rogers Centre, home of Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays. The Bills will play the fourth game of that agreement on Oct. 30 when they take on the Washington Redskins.

Bills safety George Wilson said he likes Toronto as a city because it’s pretty diverse and a nice place to visit, but he’s not really too excited about playing there and lists several reasons for coming to that conclusion. He said playing in Toronto definitely shouldn’t be considered a home game for the Bills since half of the fans over the past three years were there to cheer on the opposition.

Wilson said the difference between playing in Buffalo and Toronto is like night and day because the support the team gets from its home fans is quite passionate and the raucous. He feels the club is losing its advantage of playing at home when it travels to Toronto for a “home” game because the environment inside and outside the stadium is nothing like it is in Orchard Park. Also, the Rogers Centre holds about 53,000 fans for football while Ralph Wilson Stadium packs in about 68,000 and the Bills are 3-0 at home so far this season.

Wilson said Bills fans are pretty good at creating a hostile environment in Buffalo and it makes it hard for their opposition to focus. He added that he’s not criticizing Toronto fans because many of them do cheer for the Bills and the players appreciate it, but it’s just a fact that things are quite different when playing in Canada.

It probably doesn’t help that the 4-2 Bills are 0-3 while playing regular season games in Toronto, but have won their two preseason contests there. There’s also the matter of money. Wilson said that the players have to fork out some additional taxes when playing in Toronto, which are over and above the regular state tax paid in New York.

Wilson said the out-of-market game in Toronto is a good show for the NFL though as fans cheer the good plays no matter which side makes them. But he added that after playing in the three previous regular season games there he and the rest of his teammates know what to expect once the game kicks off. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick agreed with Wilson and said the atmosphere is a lot different, but the team still has to look upon it as a home game and take advantage of it as much as they can.

However, the Bills might be in for a pleasant surprise in Toronto this year since they have a winning record and that could mean more fan support since they have a shot at making the playoffs. Even though the Bills haven’t been very successful in Toronto it’s believed the deal to play more games there could be extended after it expires this year.

Michael Vick was spot-on in his statement that the Philadelphia Eagles are not a “Dream Team.” The saying, first spoken by Vince Young about two months ago, has haunted the team, as they dropped to 1-4 after a 31-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Vick struggled throughout the game, but he clearly wasn’t the only problem. And most definitely all the blame cannot go towards him. There are many holes in this squad, and they’re going to need to fix this now if they want to get a playoff-berth.

Vick was 26-of-40 for 315 yards with two touchdowns, but however, four picks. He would finish the game with a 66.1 rating. Vick also did have 90 rushing yards in the game, mainly off a huge 53-yard scamper. After the big run, Vick took the No. 1 spot on the all-time list for most rushing yards by a quarterback, passing by former Eagles’ quarterback, Randall Cunningham.

But things weren’t all that great. The Eagles had a chance to come back into the game, kicking a field goal to be down 31-24. However, Vick threw a fourth and final interception with a little less than two minutes remaining — and after that, it was just game over.

The Bills’ number one goal was to contain Vick, and they surely got that job done.

“All week, we talked about getting after Vick,” Buffalo linebacker Nick Barnett said, who had two of the Bills’ four interceptions. “Containing Vick is a hard job for anybody. We were trying to make him uneasy, make him think too fast.”

Barnett had an interception for a touchdown and the fourth and final one to end the game and to put the Bills up, 4-1, giving them the AFC East lead in the standings. On the final pick, Vick threw a pass to Jason Avant towards the sideline, but Drayton Florence got his hands on the ball, which tipped it and fell into Barnett’s hands.

“The ball just popped right into my hands,” Barnett said. “I tried to get me another touchdown, but I don’t have that Deion Sanders speed.”

But he did get those picks and showed off some of that playmaking ability in the game like Mr. Primetime used to do a decade ago — no doubt about that.

The Eagles have now lost four in a row, the most since 2005 in a year where the Eagles missed the playoffs in a disappointing season. Nobody would expect Philly to turn out like this.

“Sitting at 1-4, there’s really not too much you can say whether you’re a good team or a bad team,” Vick said. “I know I have a lot of confidence in these guys. We just have to keep fighting.”

Many have said that the Eagles are the Miami Heat of the NFL with all the superstars they have on their squad. What is funny is that the Heat started off the 2010-11 NBA season slow as well, but bounced back and was as strong as ever after the slow start in the regular season. As weird as the comparison is, maybe the Eagles could do the same and finish out the year with at least ten wins.

The Eagles were also burned on defense in the game by Fred Jackson, who had a total of 196 yards and a touchdown to help out big in the victory. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 21-of-27 for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception to go for a 93.4 rating.

LeSean McCoy had 80 rushing yards and a touchdown. Avant had a big game, with nine catches for 139 yards. DeSean Jackson played well, too, with five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Maclin had 54 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles will now head to Washington next week to face the Redskins. They will be facing possibly the best team in the NFC East so far, surprisingly. The Eagles are going to need to play real well to break the slump.

It may not be a Dream Team anymore, but it’s time to make this a playoff-team.

They are gonna have to prove that they are against Washington.

I had the Buffalo Bills having an upset over the New England Patriots today. It didn’t start well, however, as the Patriots jumped to a 21-0 lead. But my prediction would turn out right, as the Bills marched towards a thrilling comeback for a 34-31 victory.
Buffalo had another thriller like last week after having a 38-35 comeback victory over the Oakland Raiders in the final minute for the game.
This game came down to the final seconds, resulting in a game-winning field goal to make Buffalo 3-0 and ending a 15-game losing-streak to the Patriots. New England falls to 2-1 as Tom Brady threw four touchdowns, but yet, also four interceptions.
It was just an amazing game and a great finish by Buffalo.
Brady was also 30-of-45 for 386 yards and 86.0 rating. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 27-40 for 369 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, finishing with a 92.6 rating.
Stevan Ridley ran for 44 yards off seven carries for New England while Fred Jackson had twelve carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Wes Welker played amazing, having 16 catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Rob Gronkowski had seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns as well. Donald Jones had five catches for 101 yards for Buffalo and Steve Johnson had eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Bills just played great and are a real playoff-contending team as what I have observed so far.
Great start by Buffalo and a great game.

NFL Week 2 Recap

by Josh Reichman on September 22, 2011

This week’s record: 11-5

Overall record: 21-11

Raiders vs Bills: 38-35 Bills

Raiders Player of the Week: Denarius Moore- 5 receptions, 146 receiving yards, touchdown

Bills Player of the Week: 117 rushing yards, 23 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

The Bills defeated the Raiders to start off the season 2-0, something that hasn’t happened since 1999 in Buffalo. The Bills’ offense was on fire again Sunday when Ryan Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson lit up the Raiders’ defense. The Raiders did find a new wide receiver in Denarius Moore who will be getting more targets after an impressive game Sunday.

Lions vs Chiefs: 48-3

Lions Player of the Week: Matthew Stafford- 294 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, 106.1 passer rating

Chiefs Player of the Week: Dwayne Bowe- 5 receptions, 101 receiving yards

The Lions crushed the Chiefs Sunday and improved to 2-0 for the first time in a decade. The Lions have looked fierce this year with an incredible defense, and an offense that is just as impressive. The maturity and health of quarterback Matthew Stafford has been key for the Lions.

Titans vs Ravens: 26-13 Titans

Titans Player of the Week: Kenny Britt- 9 receptions, 134 receiving yards, touchdown

Ravens Player of the Week: Ray Rice- 43 rushing yards, 53 receiving yards, touchdown

The Titans defeated the Ravens just a week after the Ravens crushed the Steelers in Week 1. The Titans were also able to defeat the Ravens without a good performance by running back Chris Johnson. Kenny Britt has taken a lot of responsibility for the Titans’ offense this year with Johnson’s game not great this season.

Browns vs Colts: 27-19 Browns

Browns Player of the Week: Peyton Hillis- 94 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns

Colts Player of the Week: Joseph Addai- 64 rushing yards, 37 receiving yards

It is a fact that when the Browns give the ball to Peyton Hillis, they have a much better chance of winning than if they didn’t give him the ball. The Browns struggled in Week 1 to give Hillis scoring opportunities, and made sure not to make the same mistake this week. The Colts fall to 0-2, something that hasn’t happened in 13 years.

Bucs vs Vikings: 24-20 Bucs

Bucs Player of the Week: LeGarrette Blunt- 71 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns

Vikings Player of the Week: Adrian Peterson- 125 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns

The Bucs rebounded from a bad loss in Week 1 and defeated the Vikings who fall to 0-2. Although Adrian Peterson looked fantastic on Sunday, Donovan McNabb has yet to prove himself in Minnesota. Will we be seeing Christian Ponder taking snaps at all this season? Donovan needs to step his game up if he wants to keep his job.

Bears vs Saints: 30-13 Saints

Bears Player of the Week: Matt Forte- 47 rushing yards, 10 receptions, 117 receiving yards

Saints Player of the Week: Drew Brees- 270 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 118.1 passer rating

Drew Brees hasn’t thrown an interception yet this season which is a great sign for the Saints. Brees is an elite quarterback but had problems last year with a high interception count. The Saints defeated the Bears just a week after the Bears beat down on the Falcons. If the Bears want to be an elite team in the NFL they need to protect their quarterback, Jay Cutler, who was sacked six times on Sunday.

Jaguars vs Jets: 32-3 Jets

Jaguars Player of the Week: Maurice Jones- Drew- 88 rushing yards, 19 receiving yards

Jets Player of the Week: Dustin Keller- 6 receptions, 101 receiving yards, touchdown

The Jets intercepted Luke McCown four times before he was pulled this week. Backup rookie Blaine Gabbert still wasn’t able to help out the Jaguars offense who failed to reach the endzone on Sunday. Mark Sanchez didn’t look great on Sunday, but the overall offense was fine and Jets defense was impressive as usual.

Steelers vs Seahawks: 24-0 Steelers

Steelers Player of the Week: Mike Wallace- 8 receptions, 126 receiving yards, touchdown

Seahawks: Jon Ryan- 8 punts, 385 punting yards, 3 kicks inside the 20

The Steelers redeemed themselves after shutting out the Seahawks. The Seahawks are 0-2 this season and have the worst offense in the league, scoring one touchdown all season. If the Seahawks can’t figure out how to get in the endzone soon, Andrew Luck will be playing quarterback for them next year.

Cardinals vs Redskins: 22-21 Redskins

Cardinals Player of the Week: Larry Fitzgerald- 7 receptions, 133 receiving yards, touchdown

Redskins Player of the Week: Fred Davis- 6 receptions, 88 receiving yards, touchdown

The Redskins are miraculously 2-0 to start off the season after defeating the Giants and now the Cardinals. Rex Grossman has been spectacular so far for the Redskins, and has proved to the team that he is the starting quarterback. You would never believe it a month ago, but after two weeks of football, the Redskins are in first place in the NFC East.

Packers vs Panthers: 30-23 Packers

Packers Player of the Week: Charles Woodson- 5 tackles, 2 interceptions, fumble recovery

Panthers Player of the Week: Steve Smith- 6 receptions, 156 yards

The Packers escaped Charlotte after a close game with the Panthers. The Panthers offense was productive once again, and Cam Newton passed for 432 yards, but his three interceptions really killed the Panthers’ chances of winning. Aaron Rodgers had a solid game and the Packers improved to 2-0.

Cowboys vs Niners: 27-24 (OT) Cowboys

Cowboys Player of the Week: Miles Austin- 9 receptions, 143 receiving yards, 3 touchdowns

Niners Player of the Week: Frank Gore- 47 rushing yards, touchdown

The Cowboys defeated the 49′ers in OT in a big effort by Miles Austin and Tony Romo, who came back to play after being knocked out earlier in the game with a injured rib and punctured lung. Miles had a monstrous game catching all three Cowboys’ touchdowns.

Bengals vs Broncos: 24-22 Broncos

Bengals Player of the Week: AJ Green- 10 receptions, 124 receiving yards, touchdown

Broncos Player of the Week: Eric Decker- 5 receptions, 113 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

Even without Brandon Lloyd and Knowshon Moreno, the Broncos were able to beat the Bengals Sunday. Back-ups Willis McGahee and Eric Decker both had over 100 yards rushing and receiving respecitvly and helped lead an injured Broncos offense.

Texans vs Dolphins: 23-13 Texans

Texans Player of the Week: Andre Johnson- 7 receptions, 93 receiving yards, touchdown

Dolphins Player of the Week: Brandon Marshall- 6 receptions 73 receiving yards, touchdown

Arian Foster barely played after re-aggravated his hamstring and the Texans still beat the Dolphins. The game was much closer than expected, but the Texans ended up with the win despite a late second half push by the ‘Fins. Ben Tate did a great job backing up Arian Foster and rushed for over 100 yards.

Chargers vs Patriots: 35-21 Patriots

Chargers Player of the Week: Vincent Jackson- 10 receptions, 172 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

Patriots Player of the Week: Tom Brady- 426 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 135.7 passer rating

The Patriots proved Sunday that they are the best team in the AFC and possibly the best team in the whole NFL. Tom Brady has been flawless this season passing for over 500 and 400 yards in his first two games, and the Patriots defense has been stellar too. The Patriots play the Jets in three weeks but also platy the 2-0 Bills a week before.

Eagles vs Falcons: 35-31 Falcons

Eagles Player of the Week: Jeremy Maclin- 13 receptions, 171 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

Falcons Player of the Week: 114 rushing yards, 32 receiving yards, touchdown

The Eagles led the Falcons late in the third quarter but once ex-Falcons quarterback Michael Vick go knocked out of the game with a concussion, the Falcons took advantage and ended up defeating the Vick-less Eagles 35-31. After getting embarrassed in Week 1, the Falcons have bounced back and are not looking back.

Giants vs Rams: 28-16 Giants

Giants Player of the Week: Michael Boley- 6 tackles, fumble recovery, touchdown

Rams Player of the Week: Danario Alexander- 3 receptions, 122 receiving yards, touchdown

The Giants bounced back from an ugly Week 1 loss and defeated the Rams on Monday Night. Although the Giants still didn’t look great it was enough to bring their record up to 1-1. Sam Bradford and the Rams are 0-2 after facing the Eagles and Giants, and playing mostly without Steven Jackson who injured his quad early in the season opener.
