Tiger Woods

If you don’t know who Hank Haney is, you soon will. Haney was Tiger Woods’ swing coach for six years and has written a book about his life and times with Woods.

The book is titled ‘The Big Miss’ and Haney won’t give out any details about it except that it will be “hard to put down”. It covers a time in which Woods went from winning nearly half of his tournaments to a scandal that derailed his pursuit of golf history.

“I get asked all the time about Tiger, what it was like to work with him,” Haney said in a telephone interview. “I felt like I had a front row seat to golf history. It just kind of chronicles a little bit of what I went through, what I dealt with, how I coached and the observations I made.

“I think there’s a lot of things that people are going to find interesting.”

Personally I’ve heard more than I care about Woods so it’s really not a big deal to me like it may be to others.

Most of the people Woods has dealt with had a nondisclosure agreement. Something Haney doesn’t have since he never signed a contract with Woods.

Haney said he signed no such thing — “I didn’t even have a contract,” he said — although he said the book was not intended to “take jabs at anyone.”

“If he reads it, I don’t think it will be a book that bothers him. It’s hard to say,” Haney said. “I think anybody who reads it will think it’s interesting, very fair and honest, and that’s what I wanted to do. I was on that job for six years. There were 110 days a year I was with him. I stayed at his house for close to 30 days a year. You make a lot of observations.”

The book is due to be published and released in print and digital on March 27.

I’m pretty sure Mr. Woods will have something to say about that before the release of the book.

Tiger Woods Finally Wins

It was hard watching my favorite golfer, Tiger Woods, struggle for the past two years after the big scandal. However, after a long long wait, Mr. Woods is back.

El Tigre made some big putts at the end of the Chevron World Challenge to beat Zach Johnson for his first golf victory in two years! I’m just so happy for the guy and I’m glad he finally got the win.

But is he back? I sure hope so.

Take a look at the video below and judge for yourself:

Tiger Woods will rebound from his putrid day 1 performance down under, and become a positive factor for the U.S. team at the 2011 Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Australia.

Woods and teammate Steve Stricker were beat down convincingly by Adam Scott and K.J. Choi on Thursday, and matched the largest defeat in Presidents Cup history.

The two dropped 7 and 6, absolutely pitiful production that was then magnified by the success of the other American golfers on day 1. The U.S. leads the Cup 4-2 a quarter of the way through.

Day 2 will team Woods with fellow American Dustin Johnson, who has just one top 10 finish in a major this year. The two will battle Aaron Baddeley and Jason Day from the International side.

Woods and Johnson will have the undeniable edge on Friday however. They have seen the course in its entirety and the expectation level has dropped off considerably.

That being said, the pressure of golfing alongside Adam Scott and Woods’ now estranged former caddie, Steve Williams, is no longer a factor.

Not to mention, one of the all-time great golfers in history, Woods, is capable of turning it around at any given moment.

This quote from an ESPN article by Bob Harig explains Woods’ technical approach for the rest of the tournament:

“You have to drive the ball in the fairway. You’ve got to get it down there where you have some kind of 9-iron [into the green] on down. It’s just not holding. With the wind and the crustiness and some of these pin locations just over the knobs, you have to be somewhat aggressive off the tees to get it down there so you can have some kind of short shot and put some spin on it.” – Tiger Woods

It seems as if Woods will and can only improve as the Cup wages on. After all, he and Stricker opened up the tournament at absolute rock bottom, and the pressure to carry the U.S. team is nonexistent.

With the Americans out in front with some favorable matchups set to tee off on Friday, including Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk, who were dominant on Thursday, against Adam Scott and K.T. Kim, the focus has been minimized and the expectations have been dropped from Woods’ heavy clubs.

Tiger Woods’ former caddie, Steve Williams, received heavy criticism after dropping a racist remark during the Annual Caddy Awards in Shanghai.

Williams said during the awards: “My aim was to shove it right up that black —hole.” Criticism blew up at Williams for the remark, which did seem racist for a fact.

Williams later apologized on his website, saying, “I apologize for comments I made last night at the Annual Caddy Awards dinner in Shanghai. Players and caddies look forward to this evening all year and the spirit is always joking and fun. I now realize how my comments could be construed as racist. However I assure you that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to Tiger and anyone else I have offended.”

The damage has been done though. What a stupid mistake, you just don’t say things like that.

It’s gonna be a rough road for Williams for these next few weeks, maybe even months.

Greg Norman, team captain of the U.S. Team for the President’s Cup, says that he would have picked PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley over Tiger Woods for the final two selections on the team.

“No, I wouldn’t have [picked Tiger], to tell you the truth,” Norman said. “I think Keegan Bradley was much more deserving of one of the two spots that were available. He’s a major championship winner; he’s won a couple of times this year.”

Bradley has been playing solid this season. Woods has shown improvement in his game, judging from the Frys.com Open, but blew his momentum stance in the match after falling in the final round.

“I can understand the name of Tiger Woods and his history of what he’s done on the golf course. But me, as a captain, I pick the guys I think who are ready to get in there and play, who have performed to the highest of levels leading up to it,” Norman explained.

Woods recently fell to 52 in the world ranking, but Bradley still has a shot to be on the team. If Steve Stricker is still hurting with his neck injury, the spot will go to Bradley.

This is probably another sign that Woods may need to step his game up.

Despite lackluster performances and a huge slip in the golf rankings, Tiger Woods continues to be the fan and media favorite. Even if Woods pulls off a top-five finish…or a win at the McGladrey Classic this week, will he ever regain the momentum which made him the number-one golfer in the world? This is one question that only Tiger can answer and which keeps fans hanging on the edge of their seats for a response!

Although PGA Tour golfers Molder and Baird should have received more press and accolades for the exciting six-hole playoff this past week at the Frys.com Open, news outlets and golf blogs proved that, in order to get readership, it is imperative to give Woods the story.

A tie for 30th position at Frys.com Open last week is hardly cause for celebration, especially when Tiger proclaimed that he had ” probably one of the worst putting rounds I’ve ever had,” missing three putts inside six feet in round-one of his comeback to PGA Tour golf. Good news is that Woods is playing golf again, possibly turning a corner in his own personal debacle and making golf his number one priority.

Tiger Woods is now a longshot in the event, no longer sporting the best odds, but with a new outlook (and a new caddie) and fans are desperately looking forward to a success story.

The Australian Open, the Presidents Cup and the Chevron World Challenge will help fans decide whether to continue to cheer for Woods, the current “underdog”, or to find a new idol amidst a crowd of young golf superstars on several very competitive tours.

Tiger is on the comeback trail for sure, barely squeaking into a spot in the Chevron World Challenge, his own tournament, and is eager to reinvent himself now that, as Woods said, he has “no points coming off, so I can start rebuilding.”

This is just what the fans want and need to hear from their fallen hero, who is happy to be playing golf and not just banging balls on a driving range.

Woods has also become more accessible to fans. Putting himself squarely in the public eye, from a contest to share the cover of his EA Sports game to inside-the-ropes putting opportunities, Tiger is creating opportunities for support and for a more dynamic return.

Is Tiger Woods “back”? This seems to be the Twitter question of the week. To his fans he has never left, just gone on hiatus; as for his golf game, we can only wait and see.

Well, at least Tiger Woods is getting some of his old game back now. Woods took a jump in the leaderboard, but would struggle and fall towards the end of the day in round three of the Frys.com Open.

Woods would end up shooting a three-under 68.

He had some troubles on the par-three’s, going into the bunker on the third hole and messing up on the seventh.

Woods is now tired for 38th and is nine strokes back from the leader, Briny Baird. Baird has a two-stroke lead over Ernie Els and Paul Casey.

Woods had a good chance on his last two holes to birdie, but missed out.

“I was really close to putting it together,” Woods said. “It’s getting better. It’s getting better. I’m improving day by day, which is good. Obviously tomorrow I need to improve a lot and make the putts and post a really low one tomorrow.”

He played like Friday’s 68, but he is going to need a big showing for the next round to make a statement.

“I would like to just keep building on it,” he said. ” I’m definitely doing that. As I said, I was very close to really putting it together on the front nine and birdie 17 and 18 and all of a sudden, I’m 5 under. I wasn’t that far away from really turning it to the back nine and taking it deep.”

Best of luck to Woods.

Even though he may not win this one, I’m glad to see that he is now improving.

Really want to see him get a win again.

SAN MARTIN, Calif. — Tiger Woods has his first major endorsement since his downfall two years ago, announcing a deal Wednesday with Rolex to be one of its ambassadors.

Woods had lost five major endorsements in the two years since he was exposed for serial adultery and eventually divorced. He previously had a watch deal with Tag Heuer, which dropped him two months ago.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although it is believed to be longer than five years.

Woods earlier this year announced a deal in Japan to endorse a heat rub product for Kowa Company Ltd., although that was geared exclusively for Japanese markets.

The Rolex deal is far more significant, and it was announced the day Woods returned to the PGA Tour at the Frys.com Open. His agent at Excel Sports Management, Mark Steinberg, promised more deals to come.

“This makes a big statement,” Steinberg said at CordeValle, where he was watching Woods tee off in the pro-am. “I think this shows me where people are with Tiger Woods.”

Woods has lost endorsement deals with AT&T, Accenture, Tag Heuer, Gatorade and Gillette since his downfall.

Steinberg said Rolex would be the first of a “couple of announcements” related to endorsements, including a deal for Woods’ golf bag. He has had his foundation logo on the bag since AT&T dropped him a month after Woods’ sex scandal unfolded in November 2009.

He said a bag deal was likely to be announced in as early as six weeks. Woods has been in negotiations with Fry’s Electronics, sponsor of this week’s tournament, although those discussions have been going on for most of the year.

This is a return to Rolex of sorts for Woods. He had an endorsement deal with Tudor, a Rolex brand, when he first turned pro.

Swiss-based Rolex said it was paying tribute “to the exceptional stature of Tiger Woods and the leading role he plays in forging sport’s global appeal.”

“Rolex is convinced that Tiger Woods still has a long career ahead of him, and that he has all the qualities required to continue to mark the history of golf,” the company said in a statement.

Woods has 14 majors and 82 wins worldwide, although none since he won the Australian Masters on Nov. 15, 2009. He fell out of the top 50 in the world ranking for the first time in 15 years.

He missed most of this summer recovering from injuries to his left leg. Woods is playing four more times this year, starting with the Frys.com Open, followed by the Australian Open, Presidents Cup and the Chevron World Challenge.

Steinberg said the Rolex logo would not be visible as Woods plays golf. He had a watch in his bag during the pro-am, Steinberg said. Woods doesn’t wear a watch when he plays golf.

ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORT

ATLANTA — The Associated Press has learned Tiger Woods will hire Joe LaCava as his next caddie.

Two people aware of the deal said Sunday that LaCava has left Dustin Johnson and will go to work for the former No. 1 player in golf. LaCava was the longtime caddie for Fred Couples. He began working for Johnson in June, and they won The Barclays a month ago.

Woods split with Steve Williams this summer.

Boy, Tiger Woods has not been on top of his game and we’ll never know when he’ll ever be back. But he’s still playing.

And you can definitely be sure he’ll be here for this year’s Fry.com Open, as the legendary golfer announced he will play in it, according to the Associated Press.

It will take place from October 6-9 nearby Woods’ old college, Stanford.

“I always enjoy competing in my home state, and this tournament fits my schedule perfectly,” Woods said Monday on his website. “I’m looking forward to seeing some old friends.”

The Frys.com Open will be entering it’s fifth year. Even in it’s short existence, it has gained quite a lot of success, including the amazing performance last year featuring Rocco Mediate.

Hopefully, Tiger can play well. I really want him to succeed.
