The Cleveland Cavaliers appear tired of the back and forth contract dispute with star forward Tristan Thompson. He reportedly wants the max, worth more than $94 million over five years, while the Cavs were nowhere near that number.
According to Larry Coon of Basketball Insiders, that original $80 million offer is now off the table.
The Cavs were under no obligation to leave their $80 million offer on the table, and from what I heard, pulled it as soon as Thompson’s qualifying offer expired.
Thompson remains a restricted free agent, and unless a team with a ton of cap room swoops in with a max offer (76ers), Tristan is likely to accept whatever the Cavs are offering.
