Things are not looking hot for the Minnesota Vikings, and that’s probably an understatement right there. It was only two years ago that the Vikings had one foot in the Super Bowl, their roster rife with talent – the envy of NFC North. To say that these days they’re struggling is not proper depiction of the gravity of their situation. The fact that their last game resulted in a 45-7 loss at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, to fall to a 2-7 win rate, is only the tip of the iceberg. These guys have logged a combined score of 84-17 this season in two trips to Chicago and Green Bay. It’s slowly but surely getting to the point when it’s just plain embarrassing.

Defensive end Jared Allen said he felt disgusted with their latest loss. The team has dropped 9 straight games now to division rivals and the 45-7 trouncing got Allen saying that the team had obvious issues that needed to be cleaned up. Talk about an understatement again. Allen also said that he didn’t remember ever losing this badly. So far however, whatever issues the Vikings have seem to be thickening rather than dissipating. To put the cherry on the cake, Cornerback Antoine Winfield came down with a clavicle injury that has pretty much put an end to his season. Winfield is a member of an already ailing, short-handed secondary unit, the quality of which will dip to further depths due to his absence.

Chris Cook is working through legal problems concerning domestic battery charges and Hussain Abdullah is uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders. The list of injuries goes on, but according to Frazier, several of those casualties need to go through further evaluation before “someone off the street” is brought in. Veteran cornerback Benny Sapp is likely to join workouts in order to fill at least a gap in the lineup.
