As we reported yesterday, the New Orleans Saints have been in talks with Drew Brees and are now coming in closer to a deal now.

After Peyton Manning signed a record-setting five-year, $96 million deal with the Denver Broncos, Brees is expected to make more now. According to RotoWorld, Brees won't take anything less than Manning's $19 million salary.

Brees is expected to make $23 million:
The New Orleans Times-Picayune calls it a "sure bet" the average annual value of franchise player Drew Brees' new contract will surpass that of Peyton Manning's five-year deal with the Broncos.

Manning's deal is worth a total of $96 million, coming out to an AAV of $19.2 million. Brees would be unlikely to even respond to an offer worth less, and was reported in early March to be seeking roughly $23 million annually. Such a large figure could make it hard to get a deal done before the Saints' mandatory June minicamp.

Brees is definitely deserving of the money, as he helped lead the Saints to their first Super Bowl win. He also shattered Dan Marino's passing record, throwing for 5,476 yards.
