David Garrard’s loss now seems to be Ryan Tannehill’s gain.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Tannehill will start at quarterback for the Dolphins Friday night against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in the second week of the pre-season.

Tannehill will be making his first preseason and pro football start.

With Dave Garrard sidelined for several weeks after knee surgery, Tannehill has a chance to possibly win the job tonight and not give it up. The rookie also has the huge advantage of already knowing the system he is playing in, thanks to having already played under offensive coordinator Mike Sherman at Texas A&M.

The jury is still out on whether Tannehill is the real deal or not. Another showing like he had in Week One of the pre-season and the Dolphins job is his to keep.
