The Phoenix Suns announced the hiring of Lindsey Hunter as the interim head coach, two days after they fired former head coach Alvin Gentry, according to the team's official site:
Hunter was drafted No. 10 overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 1993 NBA draft. He played 17 years in the NBA and won two championships. He averaged 8.5 points, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 937 career games.
Hunter retired following the 2009-10 season, as he joined the Suns scouting department in 2012 and has served as the coordinator of the new Suns player-development department.
The decision to hire Hunter as the interim coach proves one thing: the Suns are committed to start their rebuilding process and give more playing time to their younger players instead of the veteran core. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see the Suns attempt to make some moves before next month’s trade deadline.
The Suns have a 13-28 record, which is currently the worst in the Western Conference.
