Though it has been quite clear Geno Smith has been outplaying Mark Sanchez so far throughout the New York Jets 2013 training camp, head coach Rex Ryan still is undecided on the decision of who the starting quarterback will be.

We have yet to see Smith in action, so with that, Ryan has chose to start Sanchez at quarterback for the Jets first preseason game this Friday against the Detroit Lions, the Detroit News reports.

Ryan says both Smith and Sanchez will take the first-team snaps with the offense, but it will be Sanchez that is under center. Ryan added that he's unsure of how the playing time will be handled yet between the two. Ryan said it “seemed like the natural thing to do” to start Sanchez this Friday night.

Throughout camp, Smith had been doing very solid while Sanchez struggled, throwing multiple interceptions throughout the first few days while also getting booed. However, these past two days Sanchez has been outperforming Smith, especially in red zone drills. Along with that, Smith threw his first interception of the summer in the team's 11-on-11 drills today.

We'll see how both will perform this Friday. It may take a few games, or all of the preseason, to decide who will end up becoming the New York Jets starting quarterback to open up the 2013-14 NFL regular season.
