adrian peterson january 2014

The Minnesota Vikings have a lot to address this offseason after making the playoffs in 2012 but plummeting in the 2013 NFL season.

One of the issues is Adrian Peterson, who recently just had groin surgery. Peterson is 29 years old and has come off several surgeries on injuries that include a torn ACL, sports hernia and now a groin.

As history shows in the NFL, running backs tend to deplete in skill tremendously after hitting 30 years old. Peterson is one of the best backs in the game and has made the case for being the No. 1 RB for the past half-decade. However, Peterson is hitting that veteran age and many believe Minny could give up on him.

However, Vikings general manager Rick Speilman sees something different and says he that AP isn't going anywhere.

“We have him under contract. He’s the face of our franchise. He is a blue-chip player. And we have a new coaching staff in place, and (the Vikings are) very excited about what’s coming ahead for us.” said Speilman, via the Pioneer Press.

Peterson will be entering the fourth year of his seven-year, $100 million contract. After falling nine yards short of the NFL single-season rushing record, Peterson fell back this season but was still able to make the Pro Bowl.

Being healthy next season and hoping the Vikings upgrade at several areas — most importantly the quarterback position, Peterson should be good to go in 2014.
