The Brooklyn Nets could be on the verge of making history, as they may sign free agent veteran center Jason Collins to a 10-day contract. With the move, Collins could become the NBA's first openly-gay player to play in a game.

USA Today reports that Collins was worked out by the Nets on Thursday, and they may sign him. Collins had been in many rumor reports of heading to several teams, but none of it ever happened with almost every team passing on him.

Collins, 35, hasn't played in an NBA game in nearly 10 months now.

The Nets had been looking to add a big man down low, since they are very limited in that area. They tried going after Los Angeles Lakers' Jordan Hill, but were unable to as the 2014 NBA Trade Deadline passed. With that, the signing of Collins would make much sense for them.

They are expected to make a decision sometime this week.
