The Air Jordan XX9 was officially unveiled on Thursday at a special event hosted by Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand. With much success over the Air Jordan XX8 in 2013, Jordan Brand continues to push out their yearly line of their signature sneakers.
Like the XX8, the Jordan XX9 is performance-driven but also has the style implement to it. More than the XX8, I'd say, the XX9 is more stylish.
The shoe was unveiled two months later than the usual date Jordan Brand unveils their new signature shoe. For a while, used to be in February, right along with lines of the month of Michael Jordan's birthday. However, the XX9 was unveiled in April to be more aligned with the beginning of the new basketball season.
“Our mission is laser-focused: We want to provide the absolute best performance products to our athletes, from elite high school athletes to professional players competing for championships,” said Larry Miller, Jordan Brand's president. “By shifting to a fall launch, we ensure players around the world will have the very best in performance and style available as they prepare for the season.”
Jordan Brand claims this year's model if the best performance model they've made ever.
“In the past, we’ve drawn inspiration from myriad places—everything from fighter jets to motorcycles—and have ended up with some pretty fun designs along the way,” said Tinker Hatfield, Vice President of Creative Concepts. “This year, our inspiration and challenge to ourselves was to create the best performance basketball shoe ever—and I think the XX9 and the performance-woven upper pay that off.”
This year's shoe features high-quality material by Italian craftmanship.
“We keep hearing from our athletes: Whether you’re a big guy or a point guard, you’re going to get that individual fit that really feels tailored for your game,” said Dave Schechter, Vice President and Category Footwear Leader of Jordan Brand. “We always try to ensure that when our athletes play in our shoes, they not only perform at their best, but they eliminate distractions. We think the Air Jordan XX9 offers a fantastic, custom fit that’s lightweight and breathable, but also locks you in and gives you the right amount of containment.”
The sneaker will release in Sept. 2014 for a retail price of $225. Would you cop?
