LeBron James August 2014

Being in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform might not be the only thing we'll be seeing that will be different on LeBron James for the upcoming NBA season. It looks we may see a slimmer version of him, too.

According to the Sporting News, James has slimmed down this summer as he has been cutting carbs. His latest Instagram picture shows that he is in fact slimmer.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst confirms this notion when James met with Cavaliers coach David Blatt and general manager David Griffin for the very first time:

Cavs management saw a thinner James when they hosted him at the team's training facility. He has been focused on cutting his weight since the end of the Finals by reducing carbs and has lost more than 10 pounds.

James' thinner frame was noticeable on some photos he posted on his Instagram account earlier this week.

It's unknown what James' reason is for slimming down, but it could be a various number of things.

James is approaching 30 years old, so he is hitting the last shelf of his prime career before he hits the veteran level. With that, it's not possible that James can truly keep up at high play being 250 or whatever pounds he is for the latter part of his career.

According to Yahoo Sports, another reason may be that James is preparing for the Cavs to get Kevin Love. By slimming down, it would mean less time at the power forward spot and more at small forward.

Back in Miami, James was essentially playing just about everything, where we even saw him play down low. Of course, even without Love, the Cavs frontcourt is much bigger and tougher than what James ever had on the Heat.

We'll see if cutting down on weight will help James' play and make it better than it already is for next season.
