Kyrie Irving September 2014

Kyrie Irving was a leader for Team USA basketball during the 2014 FIBA World Cup, leading with them 26 points in the 129-92 final win over Serbia to capture the gold.

Irving commented about the tournament win in Spain, and dedicated it to Indiana Pacers star Paul George. As you all know, George suffered what was a season-ending injury after breaking his leg in a Team USA scrimmage.

“(George) has a lot to do with (the meaning of the gold),” Irving said, via Sam Amick of USA Today. “This whole trip was mainly for Paul. Every single day, not taking anything for granted. It’s a devastating thing that happened to one of my good friends. It’s crazy, but for us to bring a gold medal back - and knowing he’s going to get one - is exciting.”
