It was touch and go for a minute there, but Everett Golson has been handed the keys to the Florida State football engine.

On Monday night, Jimbo Fisher announced after the Seminoles first game-week practice that Everett Golson would start Saturday’s season-opener against Texas State.

Golson, a fifth-year senior who transferred to FSU from Notre Dame this summer, had been enbattled in a competition with redshirt junior Sean Maguire.

“I think the skill sets (between Golson and Maguire) are a little bit different,” Fisher said. “That’s the other thing which allows us to move the ball with where we are right now as an offense.”

Golson led Notre Dame to a 17-6 record in two years as a starter, with career stats of 5,850 passing yards, 41 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
