Derek Carr is reaping the benefits of a young quarterback’s most important recipe for success: a talented young wide receiver.
Amari Cooper is a five-tool wide receiver, who can do just about anything on the football field, so it helps when a ugly Carr pass looks wonderful after Cooper intervenes.
“That’s what we call those 50/50 balls,” Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said, via CSN Bay Area. “When you have a player with the ability that Amari has, maybe it’s a little bit better odds than that.”
With near perfect route running and and elite run-after-the catch ability, Carr says Cooper is among the best of any receiver in the NFL right now.
“He’s amazing, he’s awesome and he’s one of the best in this league,” Carr said after the game. “Obviously because he’s a rookie and hasn’t done it for a certain amount of time people won’t say that but he’s one of the best.”
Cooper has 33 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns to start the season.
