Raptors GM Reveals Why He Fired Coach Dwane Casey After 59-Win Season

Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri had to do something, and now Dwane Casey will be looking for a new gig after winning almost 60 games.

Casey earned Coach of the Year honors from his peers after guiding the Toronto Raptors to a 59-win campaign and the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Now, he’s unemployed.

Casey was fired three days after his team was swept out of the postseason by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Casey spent seven years in Toronto, going 323-238 with the franchise during the regular season, but just 21-30 in the playoffs.

Ujiri released a statement on the matter.

Casey had one year remaining on his contract at $6 million.
