Now you're away from home for the first time and experiencing newfound freedom, college is the perfect time to start experimenting with their style, and finding out what they like.

If you want to start trying out some new looks, here's a guide that will help you look and feel your best.

Understand Your Body Type

Everyone's bodies are different, and so clothes will fit differently on them. If you just follow what's on-trend right now, you may get discouraged as what looks good on the mannequin in the store won't look good on you.

That's not to say you can't wear cool clothes, you just need to find clothes that fit you better. Different clothes suit different body types, so think about your body type. You can then look into what suits and fits you best, so you can look and feel good.

Keep to a Budget

"It's so tempting to blow your budget on a whole new wardrobe, but remember you've still got to eat," says writer Caprice Knott, from Boom Essays and Essayroo. "Don't be tempted by expensive labels, as they're not always the best for you and your style."

Instead, shop around and look for labels that are more affordable. It's totally possible to find something that both looks good and won't break the bank.

Keep It Simple

Not sure where to start with your look? Then keep it simple. Remember, you're a college student, so you don't need to make it more complex than needs be.

A good quality t-shirt and jeans with some canvas sneakers go a long way. Plus, you'll be comfortable while you're in class.

Don't Forget Skin & Hair Care

This is something that's so easy for students to forget, as they're so busy. However, good skin and hair care contribute a lot to your overall look.

Look into different hairstyles, and try some out. You'll see that some hairstyles suit people with different face shapes, so see what works for you. Also, make sure you find body and face washes that suit you, so you can take good care of your skin.

Shop During Sales

Are you trying to find good clothes, but feel like it's still too expensive when you're shopping around? If you want to make your money stretch further, then you can start shopping during sales seasons.

"There are several times during the year that you'll get deals," says fashion blogger Ubaid Richards, from Paper Fellows and OX Essays. "Black Friday is the best time to shop for discounted clothes, as well as Halloween, Christmas, and New Year."

If you sign up to store newsletters, they'll let you know when they have sales, and send you discounts just for signing up too.

Mix & Match

Many students feel they need to have lots of different pieces, to have a truly stylish wardrobe. You don't need to have much at all, and indeed you can't if you're on a strict budget.

If you want to keep things fresh, have a few pieces that you can mix and match together. In this way, you'll be able to keep looking good and create new looks without having to splash out.

Try Some '90s Looks

Since the '90s are having a revival right now, there's never been a better time to take advantage of the look. As a student, you'll be grateful for the pieces you can get right now as they're both comfy and stylish.

Some wide-leg jeans and boots will be perfect for getting across campus in chilly weather, as well as a chunky knit cardigan that will keep you warm in class.

Don't Forget Accessories

Accessories are the best way to dress up an old outfit. A statement necklace, cool watch, or a fun bag design will make all the difference, and won't cost the earth either.
