The saga of when and where Santonio Holmes might play football again seems closer to being resolved.

ESPN is reporting that the New York Jets wide receiver has been removed from the PUP list after passing a physical.

Holmes has been cleared to practice, and it could allow him to be ready for the season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a few weeks. Holmes, of course, has been accused of milking the injury to get out of participating in training camp.

Nonetheless, he will be needed as a top target for Geno Smith, if he wins the starting quarterback job (which seems likely).
