The 2013 NFL Preseason is now finally over, and next week begins the regular season.

A bunch of quarterback battles look to finally come to a conclusion as teams like the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets make their decisions on what quarterback they'll start next Sunday for Week 1 of the 2013-14 NFL season.

In Oakland, Terrelle Pryor emerged as a frontrunner through his strong preseason play, but took a huge step back on Thursday night after he had a poor performance in the preseason finale.

The same has gone in New York, with Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith battling all summer. Smith has emerged as the clear frontrunner throughout training camp and the preseason, but was horrendous in his last game.

However, despite that, it looks as if all signs point to the rookie out of West Virginia becoming the Jets starting QB come next week. As ESPN reports, with Sanchez out rehabbing his shoulder injury, it's more than likely that Smith is the man behind center on Sept. 8 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sources tell ESPN's Ed Werder that Sanchez is likely to miss a few weeks with injury, though he is listed as day-to-day. Jets coach Rex Ryan remains neutral about Sanchez or Smith starting, saying that "until there's an announcement, the competition is ongoing."

Though both players have proved they can start for the Jets in many instances throughout the preseason, Ryan is reportedly still not comfortable naming a starter just quite yet. In fact, Ryan states that this QB competition could go well into the season.

"I guess it's a possibility," he said. "When we feel good about it, we'll make that decision. Certainly we haven't put a timetable on it as far as naming a starting quarterback. When we feel [good] about that decision as an organization, we'll make it."

We'll see who the Jets name as the full-time starter, because it doesn't seem right having a QB competition into the regular season.

Under the current circumstances right now with Sanchez's injury and all, I expect Smith to be the guy next Sunday then.
