The Miami Heat are in the process of rewarding head coach Eric Spoelestra for winning two straight NBA titles. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Spoelestra and the Heat are close on a multi-year contract extension.

Spoelestra was in position to set off a huge bidding war for his services not seen since Phil Jackson hit the coaching market. Woj adds that Spoelesta would have gotten the LeBron James or big free agent treatment from team executives.

Spoelstra, 42, is 260-134 in five seasons as Miami’s coach, including three straight trips to the NBA Finals and two titles. He’s 50-29 in his five trips to the NBA Playoffs.
