Gary Kubiak is heading up north, as the Baltimore Ravens hired the former Houston Texans head coach as their new offensive coordinator.

Kubiak will become the third offensive coordinator for the Ravens in the past 13 months. The team fired Cam Cameron at the end of the 2012 season, then rolled with Jim Caldwell who left recently to become the new head coach of the Detroit Lions.

The Ravens recently began talking to Kubiak a few days ago. Sources say it was the job Kubiak was looking for after receiving interest from several teams such as the Cleveland Browns. But Baltimore has found their guy, as Kubiak will take over offensive duties under head coach John Harbaugh.

"It was a great process. It may have taken us back to where, in the beginning, you might assume we started," Harbaugh said at Monday's news conference. "In the end, this is the way it worked, and we have the best guy."

Kubiak was a pretty solid head coach in Houston, building a strong offensive attack that helped bring the Texans into the postseason in 2011 and 2012. However, this season was a disaster with Matt Schaub struggling and Case Keenum being insufficient as the interim starting quarterback.

Now Kubiak can start all over again with a solid franchise.

"This is the best day I've had in two months," Kubiak said. "It gives me a chance to be part of a championship organization."

It's likely if Kubiak does a good job here in Baltimore, he can land a head coaching gig again. Several Ravens coordinators in the past like Marvin Lewis, Rex Ryan, Chuck Pagano and Jim Caldwell have gotten head coaching gigs after being an offensive or defensive coordinator with Baltimore.
