One of the hottest topics lately in the NFL is if the players should use medicinal marijuana, and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll thinks it's something the league should explore into.
Carroll didn't say he was in favor of it, but when asked the question about it he thinks the NFL should explore into using it for the players.
"I would say that we have to explore and find ways to make our game a better game and take care of our players in whatever way possible. Regardless of what other stigmas might be involved, we have to do this because the world of medicine is doing this."
The topic of marijuana has become a hot one with the NFL. They are already claims that a good percentage of the league's players already do it. I don't doubt that statistic, considering other professional sports leagues like the NBA do so as well.
The use of marijuana becomes a bigger one when the teams in this year's Super Bowl represent the only two states that allow the use of marijuana for recreational use (Denver Broncos in Colorado and Seattle Seahawks in Washington). In 20 other states, only medicinal is allowed.
Marijuana could become helpful for a lot of players who deal with injuries. Commissioner Roger Goodell says he would look into it, if the studies show it can actually help the players with concussions and what not.
"We will follow medicine, and if they determine this could be a proper usage in any context, we will consider that. Our medical experts are not saying that right now."
I can see why Pete Carroll could be in favor of it, since the Seahawks are probably the team on the top of the list with players who have been suspended for drug use, particularly marijuana and Adderall.
Plus, it could help a lot of potheads in the league who do it anyway, like Davone Bess or Jerome Simpson for example. Okay, maybe I went too far there, but it's something to think about.
I think somewhere down the road, the use of medicinal marijuana will likely be allowed at some point in the NFL's future.
