The Seattle Seahawks have an important game to play tonight, as they hope to repeat as Super Bowl champions versus the New England Patriots. Running back Marshawn Lynch will be a key factor, because he's all about that action, boss.
However, a decision will have to be made regarding Lynch's future with the team. Since the beginning of the season, word came out that Seattle
could release Beast Mode in the offseason.
Lynch is finishing up the third year of his four-year contract, in which he will be paid $6.5 million in 2015. By releasing Lynch, Seattle can save $7 million. If they decide to keep him, he will have a $8.5 million hit against the salary cap.
"
He's under contract next year and he's a warrior,'' Seahawks general manager John Schneider said of Lynch when asked about his contract situation. "He goes out there every weekend and lays it on the line. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better running back in the National Football League."
Lynch had 1,306 rushing yards this past season, and he led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns. He has 216 yards in the postseason, leading the league.
Lynch has shown to be the true heart and soul of Seattle's offense. It would not be very wise of Seattle to cut him, but we'll see what happens.
If anything, the only thing the Seahawks can try to do is restructure his contract.
