The Portland Trail Blazers have fired assistant coach Kim Hughes, general manager Neil Olshey told the Oregonian’s Jason Quick on Saturday.

“We can confirm Mr. Hughes is no longer with the team,” Olshey said. “It is our policy to otherwise refrain from commenting on personnel matters.”

In an interview from June 27, Hughes told WHTI TV in Indiana that LaMarcus Aldridge would be leaving the team.

“People don’t realize we just went young,” Hughes said. “We didn’t publicize it, but we lost LaMarcus Aldridge. It hasn’t been declared yet, but I’m sure he won’t come back. We will go young and we depend on Meyers [Leonard] to play a lot of minutes.”

Aldridge decided on Saturday that he would sign with the San Antonio Spurs for four years and $80 million.
