This is an interesting scenario, and one I’m not sure Sam Hinkie would go for.

Dion Waiters wants to be a star and get up enough shots to warrant the accolades in the process, but the only place he can have such freedom is with the lowly 76ers.

The Thunder and Waiters failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension, and now according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Waiters wants to come home to Philly.

Waiters according to the report, believes he can get a max deal and be the man here in Philadelphia.

“He wants to come home,” a source told Pompey, adding that Waiters is from South Philadelphia. “Plus, he knows that he could be the missing shooting guard they need. And he could possibility get a [very lucrative] contract with the Sixers.”

The reports also says Waiters “talked about getting a place downtown not too far from the arena so playing at home would be less of a distraction.”

The 76ers have the most cap space in the NBA, but would they willing to give a max deal to Waiters, who is averaging 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season?
