However, Barber says he is non-committal of whether he will retire or not, according to Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times.
“Things have to play themselves out like they did last year,” Barber said. “We’ll have a meeting of the minds like we did last year and if I fit in, we’ll go from there.”
Could Barber play next season, or will he hang up the cleats?
“I’m not leaning one way or the other. I’m not allowing myself to lean one way or the other. I’m pretty sure where I stand, but I haven’t allowed myself to commit,” he added. “It means, I don’t know. I don’t know is the best I can tell you. It could be either (outcome).”
It’s hard to tell where Barber is going with, but it seems to me he’s closing in on his decision pretty soon. The Buccaneers went through a rough season and his good friend, Raheem Morris, was recently fired. What really could determine what happens is what defensive scheme they will be going with under their new defensive coordinator.
I hope Barber stays because he has been such a fun guy to watch. But if he retires, he has had one heck of a career.
