The Philadelphia Eagles have finally named a starting quarterback after weeks of posturing and tests from head coach Chip Kelly.

Kelly announced to the media Tuesday morning that Vick will indeed be the opening game starter for the Eagles after outlasting Foles in their training camp battle.

Now the questions turn to what happens to Foles from here. For months, there has been speculation about the Eagles possibly trading Foles, and many pundits now expect it to happen.

Chip Kelly says not so fast.

Kelly used the Washington Redskins and their injury woes as an example of why two quarterbacks are needed, and why Foles will be a member of the Eagles in 2013.

“You don’t have to look any farther than last night’s game with the Redskins, where [Robert Griffin III] is on the sideline and Kirk Cousins goes down in the second quarter,” Kelly said. “In this league, you better have a couple of quarterbacks ready to go. I mentioned that again to Nick today. I think Nick is going to approach it that he’s the starter, because that’s got to be his mentality going into this and prepare like he’s a starter.”

Given Michael Vick’s injury history, Foles should stay optimistic for now.
