Geno-Smith-Mark-Sanchez-Jets-2013

The Mark Sanchez era is officially over, as the New York Jets will now be moving on with Geno Smith as their new quarterback. But for Sanchez, he just won't let go.

Sanchez and Smith battled all offseason from the OTAs to all the way into the 2013 NFL Preseason for the Jets starting quarterback competition. Both looked even and made a case to start in their own ways.

In the end, Smith won by default after Sanchez got injured during Week 3 of the preseason. Now, it looks like his season will be coming to an end as he will have surgery on his shoulder. Along with that, his career as an NFL starting quarterback could be over as well.

Sanchez is in denial right now of that glaring and obvious fact, and says that if he didn't get injured, he would have been the Jets starting quarterback last Sunday in the team's Week 1 matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I won the competition. There’s no doubt,” Sanchez said.

I'm not sure Sanchez could have pulled off what Smith did last Sunday. Smith was able to get the Jets the win in his first start. However, Sanchez did make himself look good at the start of his NFL career as well, playing decent in his first three games but leading New York to a 3-0 record off the bat.

Then again, I bet Sanchez would have costed the Jets out of a win versus the Bucs in Week 1, as he probably would have fumbled or thrown a pic to ice the game like he has shown in the past few years.

Simply put, if Smith continues to impress throughout the season, don't expect to see Sanchez rocking the gang green in 2014.
