The NCAA has cleared UNC senior guard Leslie McDonald to play today. McDonald missed the first nine games of the season, but is expected to be in the lineup against Texas tonight.
McDonald is the only scholarship senior on the Tar Heels roster. He averaged 7.2 points per game last season.
McDonald was suspended by the NCAA for accepting improper benefits from sponsors last season, such as the use of luxury cars, payments of parking tickets and cell phone use and lodging. As a punishment, McDonald will have to pay $1,783-dollars to a charity of his choice before UNC’s regular season finale on March 8.
UNC junior guard PJ Hairston has not been cleared by the NCAA yet. He’ll remain in street clothes when the Tar Heels take on Texas tonight.
