Carmelo Anthony is going to be facing what LeBron James did a few years ago, as he decides if he wants to stay with his team or head elsewhere.
Anthony will be a free agent this offseason, and he can choose to stay with the New York Knicks or go to a team like the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony is about winning now, and at the start of the season it seemed like he wouldn't stay in the Big Apple. Now, with the Knicks winning again, his chances of staying are increasing.
Anthony faced LeBron's Miami Heat earlier this week, which led to a surprising victory in the Knicks' favor. After the game, LeBron was asked by the media of what advice he would give Melo as he approaches becoming a free agent.
"You got to do whatever makes [you] happy at the end of the day," he said, via ESPN New York's Ian Begley. "If you’re happy, the game of basketball is going to be fun for you. Strive to be great every day, and you can live with whatever else happens."
James did exactly that back in 2010 when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Heat. Now, James is respected as a champion and one of the NBA's all-time greats.
We'll see how it fares for Anthony this offseason, whatever decision he may make.
