Well, how about this.
According to the Boston Herald, Celtics star point guard Rajon Rondo skipped out on a C's game for his 28th birthday party this past Saturday night. Sources tell the Herald that Rondo stayed in Los Angeles while his team headed to Sacramento for their matchup with the Kings.
Rondo, who turned 28 on Saturday, was already listed out for the game, so I guess he made proper timing in making this decision.
“We already talked about it,” Rondo told the media following the Celtics' 110-98 loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday night. “There’s nothing to talk about.”
However, it doesn't look like that is the case, as general manager Danny Ainge is still investigating this situation.
“I plan on talking to Rondo when he gets back into town. I’ll find out more about what went into it, and then we’ll handle it internally. We handle all of those kind of issues internally.”
It's possible that Rondo could be fined, but that is likely it.
A source told the Herald that Rondo felt obligated to stay in LA, as it the party was planned for him at the very beginning.
“His wife and kids were with him in LA, and there were some other people who came in. I think he felt obligated to them, too, and what they had planned for his birthday.”
