Since Byron Scott has been the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, he's been pretty critical of sixth man Nick Young.
Young, otherwise known by his "Swaggy P" mantra, will sit out the rest of the 2014-15 NBA season. The focus is now for the 2015-16 campaign, where Scott believes Young needs to work more on his passing and defense than just shooting the ball.
"I consider Nick either a home run or a strikeout-type guy on the offensive end, said Scott. "Just like I told him, he has to elevate his game. He has to grow as a basketball player if he wants to continue to play in this league for a long time. He has to get better at moving without the ball, he has to be better at defending people a little bit better and be a better off-the-ball defender as well."
Swaggy P isn't about that life, though. He says he takes Scott's criticism (though it's actually advice) with a grain of salt.
“I’m used to it right now, hearing what Byron has to say,” said Young, via the Los Angeles News Group. “I take it with a grain of salt.”
Young was then asked if he takes Scott's opinion as valuable feedback
“Nah. I don’t know. I feel like it’s just a target toward me. It’s a little unfair. But it’s cool.”
Young has three years and over $16 million remaining on his contract with the Lakers. This season was a poor one for him, only playing in 42 games. He averaged 13.4 points on a career-low 36.6 percent shooting.
