We’ve always known that quarterback Robert Griffin III was a huge favorite of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, and this report details the depths that then rookie head coach Jay Gruden went through to sit him.

Chris Russell joined “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7 The Fan Friday, and told a story about the hell Gruden went through in trying to convince the owner that another quarterback needed to play.

“He had to, from what I was told, convince by going into Dan Snyder’s office for several hours last year in late November, to convince Dan why he needed to bench Robert, why he needed to take him out, why he was hurting the game,” Russell reported.

Griffin was eventually benched after Week 12. He started the final three games of the season and went 1-2 in that span.
