JR Smith is a really good dude, who just melts down at the wrong times. The Cleveland Cavaliers mercurial shooting guard says he didn’t think his team held a lead over the Golden State Warriors on the final possession of regulation in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Smith explained that he knew the Cavs were tied, but he thought someone was going to call a timeout.
“I was trying to get enough to bring it out to get a shot off,” Smith told reporters. “I knew we were tied. I thought we were going to call timeout.”
With 4.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the game tied, George Hill missed what would have been the go-ahead free throw.

Smith corralled it and dribbled out to the 3-point line, wasting precious seconds as the Cavaliers couldn’t get a shot off at the end of regulation. They were outscored, 17-7, in overtime, blowing an opportunity to steal Game 1 on the road.

In the video below, it looks like Smith says to LeBron, "I thought we were ahead." Judge for yourself.
