Tim Tebow's career with the New England Patriots was over before it could even get started, as he was cut following the NFL preseason finale.

Tebow was mediocre at best when playing as the third-string quarterback for the Patriots in the preseason, showing every sign that he hasn't improved one bit in trying to become at least a decent quarterback in the NFL. Patriots fans were hoping he would have improved to make an impact this season and sportsbooks likely adjusted NFL lines around speculation.

Before Tebow was even signed by the Patriots, many thought his NFL future was on its last hind legs. Many suggested he should go to the Canadian Football League, with teams like the Montreal Alouttes giving him an offer to play for them.

It looks like Tebow should now be considering that as a serious offer now, as NFL quarterback guru Steve Clarkson says that is likely his only option now heading into this year's football season.

Clarkson tutored tutored Tebow this offseason, and tells USA TODAY Sports that the CFL is his best bet if he wants to continue his career in football.

“It’s time now to maybe just reconsider a different path to his ultimate dream — Tim might want to look to the CFL because he may have run out of options in the NFL,” Clarkson said. “Sitting is not an option for Tim. He’s ultra-competitive. He needs to stick to his strength, which is being in a competitive environment.

“Anyone who wants to work on their craft the way Tim does, he just needs to give himself a couple of days and really decide, ‘Is this what I want to do?’ Clearly, football is still in his blood.”

Of course, Tebow can't give up yet -- and he hasn't. Tebow tweeted the day he was cut that he will continue his effort into becoming a quarterback in the NFL.

While that is nice and all, Clarkson doesn't see any NFL team picking him up this season after seeing the disasters that have happened in New England and last season with the New York Jets.

“I haven’t spoken to Tim in a while. My general thoughts now are, ‘We’re starting the NFL season. Right now, it’s not realistic that he’d be a guy an NFL team is going to pick up.”

The only way I see Tebow sticking in the NFL this season is if he decides to play another position. There's no way this man can play QB. Tebow seems better off being a running back or tight end type of guy in the league than a quarterback.

If he truly wants to stick to his plan of becoming a QB in the NFL, he has no other choice but to be in the Canadian Football League. It won't even be that bad, actually.

All Tebow needs to do is light up the scoreboard in a season or two and work more on his mechanics. By that time, he might even see himself competing for a starting QB job in the NFL again likely.

It's either that, change his position, or just give up football completely and become some type of motivational speaker or a college football analyst on ESPN or Fox Sports 1.
