Josh Smith's first season with the Detroit Pistons was an absolute disaster, which could lead to the team trading him this offseason. For a while now, there have been rumors surfacing that the Pistons could trade Smith to the Sacramento Kings.
However, according to Adrian Wojnraowski of Yahoo Sports, the Pistons look like they will be keeping Smith instead.
Detroit Pistons president and coach Stan Van Gundy reached out to forward Josh Smith to tell him that reports of the franchise engaging in substantive trade talks with Sacramento centered on Smith have been inaccurate and – barring an unexpected turn of events – Smith will be in training camp with the Pistons this fall.
Smith is owed a $14 million salary over the next three seasons with Detroit. He averaged 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season with the Pistons.
If Detroit does plan on keeping Smith, it more than likely means Greg Monroe is on his way out. ESPN reports that the Phoenix Suns could make a run at the power forward then.
