Carmelo Anthony Knicks 76ers January 2015

The 2014-2015 NBA season has been underway and not many teams are performing as was expected when the season begun.

Now the 2015 lottery for the NBA Draft approaches, several teams will be weighing their chances of becoming the ultimate No. 1 pick. This draft picks from 14 teams that fail to make the playoffs. There are various clubs that are eligible to make the draft this year.

If it were held today, the New York Knicks would have the best chance of getting the top pick. Having won less than 15 percent of their games so far this season, their 7-36 record gives them the best chance.

However, there are other teams that also have high hopes of being picked for the draft. As a matter of fact, the Knicks were expected to win about nine games as of yet, and they are already three wins less.

Going forward, they may win more games and thus lose out on the draft. The Knicks currently have a 29 percent likelihood of finishing at the bottom position. Their chances of finishing 28th or 29th are 29 percent and 33 percent, respectively.

The Knicks also have a gaping defense and their attack is also not impressive which pushes them to last positions. New York is not the only club with high probability of getting top pick in 2015 NBA Draft, though.

Clubs like Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers all have high chances. Among the 14 eligible teams for selection, some have better chances of making the draft.

Their chances are briefly illustrated as follows:

Philadelphia 76ersWith their 8-34 record, the 76ers have a 20.2 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick. While their defense is 15th best in the league at 106.2 allowed points per 100 possessions, their offensive has fallen.

Minnesota Timberwolves: In addition to their 7-34 record, the Timberwolves have the worst defense in the league, allowing 112.4 scores per 100 possessions. They have a 20.1 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick, even as their offense shows some form of waking up with brilliant performances from Andrew Wiggins and Mo Williams.

New York Knicks: They have a 19.6 percent chance of becoming the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, going by their 7-36 record. The Knicks have also become only the eighth club to win five and below games in the first half of the season.

Los Angeles Lakers: With their 12-31 record, the Lakers have a 10.6 percent chance of being able to pick first, although their performances show a potential to improve. It just seems like Kobe Bryant has decided to take things slowly after leaping Michael Jordan in the all time scoring list.

Other clubs that are eligible but with chances lower than 10 percent include Orlando Magic with 6.8 percent at a 15-30 record, Utah Jazz with 5.6 percent at a 14-28 record and the Boston Celtics with three percent at a 13-26 record.

The Sacramento Kings have a 2.9 percent chance at a 16-26 record, Indiana Pacers 2.3 percent at 15-29, Denver Nuggets 1.7 percent at 18-24, Detroit Pistons 1.6 percent at 17-26, Charlotte Bobcats 1.6% percent at 18-25, New Orleans Hornets 0.5 percent at 21-21 and the Oklahoma City Thunder 0.4 percent at 22-20.

The few coming encounters will however give clear insight about clubs that will have the highest probability to having the top pick of the draft.
