A high school student was denied her diploma because she wore sneakers to her graduation.

According to Sole Collector, a girl named Rachel had to follow strict guidelines at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, VA. Students had to wear appropriate footwear for the graduation, as sneakers were not allowed.

Rachel did not high heels to the graduation because she was reportedly afraid that she might fall in them. Instead, she wore some Nike Air Max sneakers, pictured above.

Due to "offending footwear" Rachel wore at graduation, the school is making her serve a one-day summer detention so she can can get her transcripts and things.

Her mother is fighting this case, suggesting that her daughter did nothing wrong and that she won't do the summer detention sentence. The school will be holding her paperwork until then.

In my opinion, I don't think it is a big deal. However, if the school was this strict about it, then you should have just wore the appropriate footwear.

I just graduated high school myself, and the school was strict about the footwear. I wore Jordans and a lot of people wore flip flops and other such outlandish things. However, my school never punished us for it.

I think Paul VI should do the same. It's not a big deal. Just move on and give the girl her diploma.
