It appears the tumultuous state of the Jets organization left a lasting impression in the minds of players, as one impending free agent is wary about taking his talents to the Big Apple.

Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Adam Schein Monday, running back Mike Tolbert was asked about who he’d like to play for next season, and gave a not-so-flattering answer when Gang Green was mentioned as a possible destination.

Tolbert on Jets: “They need a running back but I’m not sure about the circus.”

On the other hand, the Jets’ MetLife Stadium co-tenants are a more respectable option to Tolbert, who feels he could fill the void left by Brandon Jacobs, and (like most do) “raved” about Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.

“Unprovoked,” the former Chargers bruiser mentioned the Bucs and Steelers as two teams that are on his shortlist, also adding the Broncos, Chiefs, Packers, and Dolphins as “good fits.”

However, his comments on the Jets are pretty telling, and show just how far their credibility has sunk. Two years ago, players were chomping at the bit to play for coach Rex Ryan, on a team that went to back-to-back AFC Championship games.

Now, they’re no better than the Ringling Bros.

I guess that’s what a .500 season — chock full of turmoil and enough dirty laundry to put a dry cleaner out of business — will do to the perception of a club.
